As with anything, a problem can always arise when there are incompatibilities. Although I have written Password Key to stay within all the guidelines, other programs may sneak across those borders from time to time and there MAY be problems.
Please let me know when you have problems so we can work on them and make others aware of the solutions!
When I am informed of problems, I will do my best to help eliminate the difficulties and let others know of these problems as they arise. Most problems can be solved by as little as renaming the alias that starts Password Key. Others may require that either Password Key or another program (usually an INIT) has to go.
Since Password Key does not modify any system or driver files, no damage should occur from using it. Here are some of the problems I'm aware of:
Bombs, requires restart, then works.
So far, the main problem I've seen is that Password Key can sometimes bomb and require a restart. The funny thing is, when it runs the second time, it usually works fine. This one is really bugging me. If you have this problem, try renaming Password Key's alias to make it load last (or first) or in between. But loading last should give you better protection.
Bombs with System error "Finder" error type 41
One user got a bomb every time he entered three "bad" passwords. Using Extensions Manager, he found the problem to be Cursor Animator 2.0.1 using color animated cursors for normally static ones (like the arrow). After removing that CDEV, everything worked fine.
Locks at the "WARNING" screen (or throws you into Macsbug when it's running)
This problem seems to be some problem with System 7.1 and using "Thousands" of colors as a Monitors setting. Returning to 256 colors fixes the problem. (I don't understand why this is a problem and it may be that this is not REALLY the problem. Let me know if you're running in "Thousands" with no problem.)
There may be others and I'll be more than happy to discuss any problems you have with Password key on your system. Just email me or call and we'll work them out!
